What is the Resilience Champion?

The Resilience Champion

What is a Resilience Champion? – Activity & Discussion

Each week you will have access to a downloadable version of the activity & discussion post (may also include a worksheet).

Activity: Work through the following questions either individually or as part of your Resilience Champion team. (Use may use the worksheets as a tool to support the activity.)

  • Choose a hat:  Think about the different roles you play within the various settings of  your professional and professional life. What are some of those hats (ie. parent, employee, coach, etc)? Which hat are you going to choose to focus on in the Resilience Champion course?
  • Identify your team: As you create your team, consider structural inequities that may influence the make-up of who has a seat at the table and whose table it is. Remember the inequities discussed in the Social & Historical Trauma section in The Basics and how they can influence the power structure of your setting. This is about more than just inclusivity; it’s about redesigning our systems and structures.

Discussion post:  Post your answer to these questions on the discussion section:

  • Briefly introduce yourself and your team
  • Which hat are you wearing for this course?

The Resilience Champion

Setting the Foundation – Activity & Discussion

Each week you will have access to a downloadable version of the activity & discussion post.

Work through the following activities as part of your team. (You may want to use the separate worksheets as a tool to support the activities).

    • Define your team: As you create your team, consider structural inequities and power dynamics that may influence the make-up of who has a seat at the table, whose table it is, and who is setting the agenda. This is about more than just inclusivity; it’s about redesigning our systems and structures.
    • Establish Agreements:  With your team, create a set of agreements that reflect how your group will live the principles of a trauma-informed approach. These agreements will help guide the culture of your team. You may want to reference the principles of a trauma-informed approach as a guide and ask the question, “How will we create a culture of (physical and emotional) safety?” As you develop these agreements, include conversations about how to navigate conflict, time management, meeting structure, and internal/external communication. Identify any barriers that might get in the way of living the agreements. You and your team may want to revisit these agreements over time.
    • Create a plan to “take it home”:  As you lead this work, you will be introducing concepts from the Resilience Champion Workshop Series to your organization. Start to identify concrete ways you will put this work into action.
  • Here are some examples of how you might do this:
    • Incorporate trauma-informed meeting practices in your organization. This could include starting meetings with a mindfulmoment or offering choices around ways participants can engage during the meeting.
    • Introduce shared language concepts–such as Dan Siegel’s hand model to explain how we respond to stress–with peers or clients.
    • Continue the conversation with staff about why they are doing the work they are doing within your organization and explore how a trauma-informed approach might support them living that why.

Discussion post:  Post your answer to these questions on the discussion section:

  • What are some ways you will take home the learnings from this week and start to introduce these concepts into your organization?
