Courses & Consulting
Let’s work together to understand the root causes of the challenges your organization or community is facing so you can build resilience and achieve higher quality outcomes.
The Basics
The essential elements to get started with a trauma-informed approach
New to this trauma-informed stuff, or just need a refresher? The Basics is for you.
This 90-minute online training session helps anyone understand the basic science behind the ACEs framework and what it means to develop a trauma-informed and resilience-building approach. It also provides a shared language that can be applied in a variety of sectors (including schools and education, healthcare and community health centers, law enforcement, social work, child welfare, criminal justice, non-profit, and more) or in a cross-sector setting (such as a community group).
By the end of this course, you’ll develop a solid understanding of trauma-informed principles and practices including the following key concepts — a necessary step to take before applying them in your unique setting — and be ready to “graduate” to The Resilience Champion course.

The Resilience Champion
Moving from “Aha!” to action
Some people start with The Basics. Maybe you already know about the effects of trauma and you’re thinking, “Yeah, but what can I do about it?” The Resilience Champion Certificate can be your first step.
This self-paced professional development course (which includes access to The Basics) will guide you as you move from trauma-aware to trauma-informed and trauma-responsive. You and/or your team will work through one section each week (or faster or slower, if you prefer) to help you establish a foundation, create goals, and identify concrete steps you can take to sustain trauma-informed practices and principles and a resilience-building approach in your specific setting. You’ll also see cross-sector examples of Resilience Champions and specific strategies that have worked for them, providing inspiration for clear steps to help you get started.

Core Values
The values we define affect the solutions we design.
Values are central to the culture of any organization, including ours. With that in mind, all Origins training courses and consulting packages are inspired by these core values.
Relationships matter.
Relationships can be a source of trauma and a solution. Strong relationships built on inclusivity, collaboration, and teamwork help us build resilience and improve experiences and outcomes. Even when conflict arises, focusing on the relationship allows us to learn, repair, and heal.
Equity is essential.
Many of our systems and institutions have excluded or marginalized groups of people. We acknowledge this and take concrete steps to build tables where everyone is welcome, all voices are heard, and all solutions account for injustice.
The people facing a problem hold the solution.
Human-centered design philosophy reminds us that the most effective solutions to a challenge are developed in collaboration with the people who face and understand that challenge best. It starts with building deep empathy and ends with creating solutions that are tailored to their specific needs.
You own the solution. We’re here for guidance.
You’re the expert in yourself and your setting. We’re the experts in trauma-informed care. Together, we make one mighty team. While we provide coaching, tools, and support, only you and the people experiencing the challenge can develop the best solution. Trust yourself. You’ve got this, and we’re here to back you up.
It starts with you.
Building resilience starts with having the courage to look inward and be honest about our own challenges. With self-awareness, self-care, and authenticity, we must each get ourselves in order before helping others.
We adapt.
All of our behaviors, thoughts, and feelings are shaped by past experiences. In other words, we adapt based on what we’ve gone through or are currently going through. Behaviors are symptoms, and over time, symptoms can become habits.
Responsibility rules.
Building resilience and improving relationships require each of us to understand and take responsibility for how our behavior affects the people around us. Setting limits and creating structure helps create safety for everyone.
Get started, and make mistakes.
There is no blueprint for taking a trauma-informed approach. Innovation and change require the courage to get out of the starting gate, take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. This is a process, and the best time to begin it is now.
